What God songs am I listening to today? I popped “The Art of Breaking” in the disc player today. Seems like a good time to post about Thousand Foot Krutch and their great Christian songs. TFK is a band out of Canada currently consisting of Trevor McNevan, Joel Bruyere and Steve Augustine. They’ve been called alternative Christian music or a Christian rock band or Christian metal and others labels. I don’t care what you call them they rock. TFK has released five studio albums “That’s What People Do”(1998), “Set It Off”(2000), “Phenomenon “(2003), ”The Art of Breaking”(2005)“The Flame In All Of Us”(2007), and “ Welcome to the Masquerade”(2009).

“The Art of Breaking” is my favorite Thousand Foot Krutch Album. Move was a bit of an overplayed God song but I still love it. “Go” is another one of Thousand Foot Krutch songs that I really like. Actually the whole album is good packed full of good God songs.
That’s not to say the others are not good they all include great God songs. I mean Rawkfist is a classic Thousand Foot Krutch song. The new disc “Welcome to the Masquerade” is great album and its growing on me I really dig “Fire it Up.” Basically Thousand Foot Krutch has a great album catalog full of Christian songs. I don’t feel any of their albums disappoint.

Not all Thousand Foot Krutch lyrics deliver the message in a straight forward in your face manner; some songs like Move and Smackdown require a bit more thought. I think this provides for a great deal of thought and reflection. I mean really its win win. God songs that praise and glorify God, deliver Christ’s message and jam.
Thousand Foot Krutch has had God songs featured in many mainstream avenues. Video games, feature films, movie trailers, TV shows, what a great way to open a door to expose more people to Jesus.

The Christian artist I’d like to talk about today is T-bone. I first heard his versions of God songs on “The Fighting Temptations” a great movie that featured a variety of God songs by Mary Mary the Blind Boys of Alabama and more. I know I’ve mentioned this movie more than once, but I really liked it.
Tbone is said to have started rapping at the age of 7. His life was touched by Christ and he has been delivering his message for many years without losing sight of his mission. T-bone has been able to deliver the message to many that would not have heard it otherwise, by delivering God songs to the youth in a way that is not very often heard. T-bone is not the only, or the first, Christian rapper by any means he is however in mine and many others opinion the best.
Tbone was nominated for Grammies 3 times, winner of several Dove awards starred in several feature movies. This kind of fame has spoiled many a great man. T-bone continues to deliver his message. He has never sold out for the fortune he could have made by making gangster songs instead of God songs.
From the God song “Demon Killa” By T-bone “Boney-bone Corleone back up in your face Man Ephesians 4:29 says ‘Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good for the use of edifying that it may minister grace unto the hearers’” This quote from the scriptures seems to some up what guides T-bone in his songwriting. Only God knows how many souls his God songs have touched.
T-bone is a Christian rapper who could easily make it big in the mainstream. He is a true talent. This was proven even more so when legend KRS-One appeared on the album and song Gospelalphamegafunkyboogiediscomusic after T-bone guested on his album Spiritual Minded. From Krs-One to Kirk Franklin from Mack10 to Montell Jordan Tbone has collaborated with some genuine legends on some great God songs. If you are not a fan of rap don’t let that keep you away my mom is even a fan of Tbone.

On an ending note Go Steelers it’s been a bit scary so far this season. Thank God Troy is back another God fearing man who has a positive effect on this world. Troy and Tbone are actually two of the people I would like to meet in person, Jesus of course being number one. So as I throw a Tbone disc on the changer and celebrate another Steeler close call victory listening to some good God songs I’ll stop rambling and say God Bless.

Another of my favorite God songs which falls under the category well I’m not sure what category. I don’t know if Jonny Lang is a Christian artist or a Christian who is also a blues musician. I’m not sure if it makes a difference. Jonny Lang was into drugs and alcohol and wasn’t into Jesus, but his life turned around as he was touched by the Lord. It has been around for a while but “Turn Around” by Jonny Lang is a great disc. Even if you are not that into the blues the lyrics and vocals are strong and touching. I feel “Turn Around” is a necessary addition to your God Songs.

My favorite God song from the album is “Only a Man” Here is a you tube video someone put together that features the song it’s put together pretty nice.

When I’m feeling down and my world seems completely out of my control I pop this cd in and realize most of it is out of my control. This God song helps me deal with problems head on reminding me that as long as I walk with Lord I can overcome life’s obstacles.

I feel sometimes people don’t give God songs a chance if they are not labeled Christian music. Sometimes those feelings and labels rob people of an opportunity to hear some really good music.

What makes great God songs? When someone thinks of God songs what comes to mind? Many things come to my mind, from singing “How Great Thou Art” with the congregation, to popping in an Elvis Presley gospel CD, or listening to Tbone or Thousand Foot Krutch. Can God music come from a secular artist? I say why not, if someone has faith and professes it in song why does it matter what record label they are with?

God songs have provided a great way for me to connect with God on so many levels. When I am joyous and want to praise there are songs for that. When I am feeling down and sad there are God songs for that. At those times when I feel my faith is weak and sometimes question things there are God songs for that.

“How Great Thou Art” is one of my favorite hymns as a child I lost a number of people in my life. I can remember the comfort that this hymn provided for me when I pondered the lyrics. Just the power and awesomeness of God, and now the person I loved had gone to be with him. Tennessee Ernie Ford does a very good version, but the power of a church full of believers singing it together is just awesome. The chills the fellowship, there is just something healing and empowering about it.

A God song that inspires me quite a bit is “I Can Only Imagine.” MercyMe somehow hits on how profound it might be on the day when we come to meet our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is one of those God songs that has a positive effect on me whether I am feeling good or bad.

One more song I would like to mention today is from the movie “The Fighting Temptations” a movie that I thought was excellent. In the movie there is a version of “Down by the River” done by the O’jays, Montell Jordan, Zane and Tbone. This God song features a great mix of traditional hymn as well as newer hip hop elements. If you haven’t heard it you should definitely check it out.

These are just a few of the God Songs I felt like talking about today. I hope to talk about more God songs and Christian music, both new and old, in the future. Feel free to comment about your favorite songs that should be included here.
